Election Day

Today is the last day for voters in South Padre Island to cast their ballots for the candidates of their choice.

The Island is going through the inevitable growing pains any town is faced with when confronted with "development" on a large scale. The ability to manage the interests of the competing parties and adequately plan for growth that can be sustained - on a sandbar where land is at a premium and the role of nature is overlooked at our peril - but is limited by the island's infrastructure and environment, is a requirement which any individual seeking public office on the Island must possess.

I, for one, look forward to the results of the election, and to working with the successful candidates in our joint efforts to make South Padre Island the paradise we believed this little piece of land to be when we all chose to make it our home.

Ditto on the election results.

I hope to be open sometime in September and have a Grand Opening celebration in October. The dates are still realistic, if everything goes as planned, and I quit procrastinating.

But then again, there is regular time and Padre time...

Any favorite authors or genres you would like to recommend?

Hey it's not SPI but I've been wanting go read a guy named Carl Hiaasen (think I'm close on the SP here). I usually like older stuff but have heard HE'S STILL ALIVE and writes like a champion. I'm a newbie to him and hope you can carry some of his stuff. What's he like?

My tastes change pretty regularly but I tend to always like anything of surf history, Texas history or historical fiction.

A friend of mine, Susan Lang, has written a new book called "Building Your Dream Home" - it is fantastic, detailed and something that many who come to SPI building a new vacation home or anywhere would find tremendously useful. Can't wait for you to get back "home" - A
