In A Worldwide Travel Guide to Sea Turtles, a scientist, a conservationist, and a journalist come together to provide a guide to places where people can view sea turtles and participate in authentic conservation projects. Accounts cover parks, reserves, and research sites on five continents, the South Pacific and Caribbean, with details on the sea turtle experience offered as well as options for lodging and other amenities. One chapter covers basic sea turtle biology and threats to their survival, and another, accredited rescue and rehabilitation facilities where sea turtles can be seen in captivity.

Melissa Gaskill, co-author of A Worldwide Travel Guide to Sea Turtles, is a professional journalist with more than 25 years of experience writing about the outdoors, nature, and science. She has published in Scientific American, Newsweek, Men's Journal, Alert Diver, Texas Highways, Texas Parks & Wildlife, National Wildlife, Texas Co-op Power Magazine and many other publications. Based in Austin, she earned a degree in zoology from Texas A&M University-College Station and a master's in journalism from The University of Texas at Austin.

Just back from five years in Afghanistan, Will Everett has selected South Padre Island for the launch of his first novel, We’ll Live Tomorrow. Paragraphs on Padre Boulevard is proud to be the site for this inaugural world roll-out.

We’ll Live Tomorrow follows Hunter Ames, an American aid worker grappling with a dark family history and a growing midlife malaise. In an aid compound in southern Afghanistan, under the watchful eyes of the Taliban, he meets the mysterious Karimullah, an exploited “dancing boy” hunted by his master. These two lost souls strike up an unusual friendship in war-torn Afghanistan – Karimullah looking for sanctuary after years of abuse at the hands of a violent master, and Hunter trying to come to terms with his own tragic past. But menacing forces surround them, imbuing their friendship with the promise of salvation and the prospect of tragedy.

While the novel explores a wide range of human-interest issues, such as the doldrums of middle age and the aftershocks of family tragedy, Everett says he had a larger purpose in writing this novel when he did. “Through the book and its layered characters, I hope to give readers an intimate look at a country the U.S. has spent so much time supporting, yet many know little about.”

Valley residents may remember Will’s work on NPR, such as his music and literature program Theme and Variations and his award-winning 2006 documentary, World War One Living History Project, which he produced with Walter Cronkite to honor the last surviving veterans of WWI.  His work has appeared in Newsweek as well as on NPR, the BBC and other outlets. Will holds a master's degree from the University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.
