Meet James Bathurst Author of "Cat on a Leash"

Meet The Author Series at Paragraphs

MONDAY DECEMBER 30th   1-3 PM

Cat On A Leash

Reception, and signing with author, Captain Jim Bathurst

There is a fine line between admiration and stalking. The story of a persistent cat, the couple she “dated”, and their... More > travels aboard the motor-vessel Wild Blue. The 50-something couple retired early, sold their home & photography business, scooped up the cat, and hit the waterways. Life isn’t always easy onboard a 25 foot boat, but it is an interesting escape. Featuring Molly the cat.
This heart-warming story will touch the soul of any pet lover.
James Bathurst is the story-teller behind Cat On A Leash. Known as Captain Jim to his audience on the internet, Jim’s style is off-beat and folksy. Writing isn’t his “day job;” Jim was a photographer for 32 years. During that time, he wrote articles for many photography magazines, taking often dry trade topics and making them humorous.
Jim retired from a career in photography at age 52 to take his wife, Joan (also known as “the Blonde”) and Molly, the boat cat, traveling. It was about that time that he started a cruising thread on a boating forum; “The Cruising Adventures of Wild Blue and Crew” soon became one of the most visited sites on that forum with over 200,000 views.
The “captain” part mentioned above isn’t just a nickname - Jim holds a US Coast Guard Master license, a commercial pilot’s license, and a spirit of adventure.
Bathurst and his wife Joan make their home in Port Isabel.  Prior to making this their “home base” for their travels, the Tropical Tip was their seasonal escape since the mid-90s.
The newest member of the Bathurst family is Isabel (Izzy).  She is a beautiful long hair domestic cat, rescued from the Laguna Madre Animal Shelter.

Author to visit

Meet the Author Series at Paragraphs
Sunday January 22nd   1-2PM
“Life is an Adventure
………Planned in Heaven”
Book signing, discussion and reception with author, Helaine Dufoe

Lainie was raised in a dysfunctional home—married into a dysfunctional relationship. She had four beautiful children, however, who became her greatest gifts. She studied piano as a young child, and music became a way for her to connect to much in life. She played organ in many churches (in Canada and the US)—including St. Kevin’s north of Sudbury, where she “volunteered” for over forty years. She started out in Thunder Bay, Ontario—lived way up in northern Ontario for six years—and finally settled in Sudbury, Ontario (dubbed “the nickel capital of the world”). Her parents retired in the Phoenix, Arizona area, and Lainie enjoyed the palm trees and warm weather whenever possible.
Lainie divorced her first husband, remarried, and that husband died suddenly of a heart attack. She remarried again and discovered South Texas because of his family. She felt like she reconnected with the things she loved in Arizona plus the ocean. Recovering from alcoholism and being in the South Texas area brought many new wonderful facets to her life. She volunteered in the hospice field in both countries, which also taught her much. She had powerful dreams, causing her to write music and books and take care of unfinished business. Overcoming her mother’s words, “I never wanted any girls,” became another great gift. Her life is a testimony to being a stronger person because of her life being exactly as is. She believes in helping the divine purpose of the universe to unfold.

Helaine was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and lived mostly in Sudbury, Ontario. She studied piano at an early age, and music covered her whole life. After overcoming her alcohol addiction, her life became very spiritual. This story is about many of those spiritual experiences and a whole lot more.

This event is free and open to the public.

Meet the Author at Paragraphs
“Reflections”
Saturday, December 21st       1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Book discussion and signing with author, Celeste Barnard
Find your favorite chair and reflect... I have a favorite chair, as I am sure a lot of us do. It's a place where I've enjoyed many hours of reading and reflecting on God's Word. Honestly, I would not be the person I am today without this time of sitting and reflecting on His Word. It's become a regular part of my day and things don't go as well when I haven't spent that time reflecting. Every morning I rise, brew my coffee, and then I sit. I sit and reflect. As I reflect, He calms my anxious heart. He reveals to me who I am in Him. He gently shows me, through His Word, areas that I need to give over to Him. As I step out each day, I pray that I am a reflection of Him. Reflections is a thirty-one day devotional to encourage you to go deeper in your walk with the Lord. Be challenged, refreshed, and reminded of who you are in Him. I invite you to find your chair and come on a journey with me to dream again, to realize the potential God sees in you, and take every bit of His Word as truth and begin to live like you believe it!

Celeste Barnard currently resides in South Texas. She and her husband, Jonathan, have been Children’s Pastors for over fifteen years and are now working to establish a Ranch, Farm, and Camp for kids and families. She home-schools three incredibly amazing children, Hope (13), Noah (11), and Joel (9). On any given morning, you might find her sitting in her favorite chair, reading & journaling (reflecting) while drinking coffee. She is passionate about encouraging women to be all that God has called them to be. She hopes that as women, we will stop judging each other and tearing each other down. She believes that God can change the world through women united in Him. She also believes that once women stop comparing themselves to other women, that we can be free and confident in the gifts that God has given us. She wants women to realize that perfection is overrated and life is truly a beautiful mess. Together, as we lift up Christ in our own lives, we can truly enjoy the journey!
